       ROTARY LEAF FILTERS

It is the exceptional effective cleaning performance of the rotary leaf filter what sets this type of filter apart from other  pressure leaf filter designs. Every square inch of filter mesh or filter cloth is passing through the most effective range of the specially designed spay nozzles twice, every single rotation.

Removing the filter cake from the leaves is the first step of the cake discharge phase. Effectively evacuating the cake from the filter tank  is just as important.

Tank Designs.

To effectively remove the filter cake from the filter tank, we offer 3 different filter tank designs.

* Single conical shells are commonly used for filters up to 1000 square feet filter area.

* The double conical tank is used for filters larger than 1000 square feet filter area or for those applications where a sticky type of cake can be expected. Both the single conical as well as the double conical filter tank are installed with one or more bottom sluice nozzles.

* A trough type filter tank is particularly suitable for heavy, sticky cakes. This tank configuration can be installed either with bottom sluice nozzles or with a slow rotating screw conveyor.

American Filter Systems installs heavy duty filter leaves for every application. Because of the improved economical design of these leaves we can offer this type of filter at a competitive price.

Advantages :

Further advantages of the rotary leaf filter compared to static leaf filters are the shorter cleaning cycle and the lower sluicing liquid consumption. The circular filter elements with central filtrate outlet allow an even flow distribution for uniform precoat and cake formation.

A quick opening door allows easy access for maintenance and inspection of the internals.

An adjustable inlet baffle provides an equal flow distribution of the unfiltered liquid over the entire leaf pack.

Types of Cake discharge.

We know 3 different types of cake discharge.

* WCD (wet cake discharge) where the cake is removed from the filter by means of sluicing nozzles. Conical or double conical filter tanks.

* PCD (Paste cake discharge) where the cake is removed  from the filter leaves by a sharp water jet. The filter cake is removed from the filter  with a special screw conveyor installed in the bottom of the trough type filter tank.

* DCD (Dry cake discharge) First the cake is dried in place, with (hot) air, inert gas  or steam. Then the the cake is removed from the filter leaves by means of a scraper mechanism. The filter cake drops into the steep trough where a screw conveyor evacuates the cake from the filter.
