Vertical shell/Vertical Leaf filters have been widely installed in for instance the edible oil industry. After drying with steam, the dry cake is removed from the filter leaves by means of vibration.
American Filter Systems now offers a new (patent pending) (DCD) Dry Cake Discharge design for this type of filter as well as for horizontal shell filters.

Vertical Shell Filters Conventional Vibrator Design
Horizontal shell filters and Vertical Shell, both installed with vertically arranged filter elements, can be equipped with a vibrator for dry cake discharge (DCD) or a spray header for wet cake discharge (WCD). Depending on the application, either a high frequency vibrator or a knocker type vibrator will be installed.
Both styles of filter can be equipped with AFS Inc. H-D filter leaves. The design of these leaves has been greatly improved and both cloth and wire mesh type filter covers can easily be replaced.
For ease of maintenance and inspection, filters can be installed with a quick opening door. Horizontal shell filters can be opened fully automatically. To remove the filter leaves from the filter tank, an electrically or hydraulically operated drive mechanism slowly removes the filter bundle from the filter shell.
After discharge of the dry filter cake (removed by vibrator or manually) the filter elements can be easily inspected and moved back into the filter shell for the next filter cycle.
